Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Hobart

Upon arrival at the Hobart airport, proceed to the rental counter to pick up your car. Take the afternoon to leisurely explore Tasmania’s capital city. Hobart is surrounded by the dramatic landscape of Mount Wellington and situated along the banks of the Derwent River. Be sure to check out Battery Point, particularly Arthur’s Circus - an extravagant suburb of Hobart where old whalers’ cottages still stand in a colorful circle around a park.
Overnight: Hobart, Henry Jones Art Hotel

Day 2: HobartFreycinet National Park (148 miles/4 hrs)

Departing Hobart travel north via the Tasman Highway, passing the East coast towns of Swansea (population of 495 and home to fairy penguins), Apslawn and Llandaff. At Llandaff, follow the signs south to Coles Bay, which is nestled beside the world-famous Freycinet National Park, where spectacular red granite peaks plunge deep into the ocean. Recommended stops along the way include the Friendly Beaches and Dolphin Sands.
Overnight for 2 nights: Freycinet National Park, Freycinet Lodge

Day 3: Freycinet at Leisure (breakfast included)

Today allows for ample time to explore the area at your own pace. The Coles Bay-Freycinet National Park area is home to spectacular coastal scenery, fishing, boating, bird-watching, bushwalking, wildlife-spotting and swimming. Granite mountains rise straight out of the sea to form a magnificent sheltered waterway. Take a stroll into the park and climb the mountains for sweeping views across Wineglass Bay and out across the Tasman Sea. Or, perhaps take the rough roads through the National Park and take a swim in the clear, safe waters off the white sandy beaches off the bay. The Visitor Center is a great way to start the day, especially if you want to learn about the park’s history. Their helpful staff can answer any questions you may have about the area.

Day 4: Freycinet – St. Helens (76 miles/21/2 hrs) (breakfast included)

Depart Freycinet National Park and travel north back to the Tasman Highway. Drive through the towns of Bicheno (population 640; known for fishing and beach resorts), Four Mile Creek (white sandy beaches, small farms and seaside villages), and Beaumaris (excellent beaches and lagoons) to arrive at St. Helens, which is the largest town on the Northeast coast of Tasmania with a population of 2049. St. Helens is a popular resort town for fishing, swimming and aquatic activities. Travel up to the classic 1904 homestead with views across Georges Bay.
Overnight: St Helens, Tidal Waters Resort

Day 5: St. Helens – Launceston (105 miles/2 hrs)

Depart St. Helens via the Tasman Highway and head northwest towards the town of Scottsdale (population of 1904, known mostly for farming and the timber trade; the lavender farm on the Bridestowe Estate is a must see). Next, head southwest to Launceston, home of the Hatherley House – an intimate home from circa 1830s. Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city with a population of 103,325 and home to one of the largest selections of beautiful 19th century buildings in Australia. Take some time to explore Cataract Gorge, a river gorge in the city and home to the longest single span chairlift in the world spanning 924 foot.
Overnight: Launceston, Hatherley House

Day 6: Depart Launceston

Check out of your hotel and proceed to the airport to drop off your rental car before checking in for your flight to your next destination. Chat with a travel agent to see how you can make this trip a part of your whole Australia itinerary.
