Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Auckland: Welcome to Auckland - the 'City of Sails'.  Walk along the harbor, visit a museum, or dine at a trendy restaurant in Parnell Village, as you prepare to embark on your journey across New Zealand.

Day 2 - Auckland to Waitomo to Rotorua: Travel to Waitomo caves for a guided tour of the Glowworm Grotto.  Continue travel to Rotorua for a traditional feast (Maori Hangi) and concert.

Day 3 - Rotorua to Hamilton: Visit Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, Te Puia, Rainbow Springs, and the Rainbow Farm Show.  This afternoon, depart for Hamilton.  After checking-in to your hotel, take time to stroll through beautiful Hamilton Gardens - also a great place for a picnic!

Day 4 - Hamilton to Wellington: Travel via the Overlander Train to Wellington, New Zealand's beautiful capital city.*

Day 5 - Wellington: Enjoy Wellington at leisure.  Hike up Mount Victoria for fantastic views of the surrounding landscape, visit Te Papa (the national museum), stroll through the city, taking note of the impressive architecture, or catch an evening show at one of the city's theaters.

Day 6 - Wellington to Christchurch: Travel on the Interislander Ferry across Cook Strait to Picton.  Join the TranzCoastal Train to complete the journey to Christchurch.*

Day 7 - Christchurch: Enjoy Christchurch at leisure.  Tour the cathedral, visit the Art Gallery or Canterbury Museum, view the Botanic Gardens or see many of the world's endangered animals at the Orana Wildlife Park.  Want to get out?  Bike up the Summit Road for fantastic views of the city, the harbor, and the surrounding Southern Alps.  End the day feasting at one of Christchurch's premier restaurants.

Day 8 - Christchurch to Mt. Cook to Queenstown: Travel to Queenstown, stopping to view Lake Tekapo, Aoraki (Mt Cook National Park), Lindis Pass, and the Kawarau Gorge.

Day 9 - Milford Sound: Travel along Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau.  Join your Milford Sound Red Boat Cruise to catch spectacular views of the Sound, before you return to Queenstown for the evening.

Day 10 - Queenstown: Enjoy Queenstown at leisure.  Take a boat out on the lake, visit one of the nearby vineyards, or just take a break and enjoy the scenery.

Day 11 - Queenstown to Franz Josef: Travel north, through the Haast Pass, to Franz Josef Village, via Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea.

Day 12 - Franz Josef to Christchurch via Tranzalpine Train: Leaving Franz Josef, travel to Greymouth where you will board the famous TranzAlpine scenic train.*  Catch fantastic views of the Canterbury Plains until you complete your journey at Christchurch.
